Changing Your Lexus Tires

To change the car tires on a Lexus, you’ll need the right tools like a jack, lug wrench, spare tire or new tire(s), and your vehicle’s owner’s manual. Replacing the tire on your vehicle is not difficult and pretty straightforward.

  1. If you’re on the side of the road near Philadelphia, move to a safe area and turn on your hazard lights.
  2. Wherever you are, apply the parking brake and wheel wedges under the other tires.
  3. Remove the wheel cover or hubcap from the tire, then loosen the lug nuts.
  4. Use the jack to raise your vehicle and remove the lug nuts.
  5. Remove the current tire and mount the new or spare tire.
  6. Tighten the lug nuts, then lower your vehicle back to the ground.

How Often Should You Change Car Tires?

This varies depending on how often you rotate your tires and how well they are made. Regular tire rotations allow you to get the full mileage promised, but it’s best to check your tire pressure and tire tread regularly to be on the safe side. If the tread wear is significant, new tires are needed. To ensure they last as long as possible, make sure to schedule a tire rotation when you have your oil changed.

How to Put Air in Your Tires

If you don’t need new tires and are wondering how to put air in them, we have you covered! If you don’t have an air pump, you can visit your local gas station to use theirs. Read below to learn how to add air to your tires:

  • Park your vehicle by the air dispenser and ensure that the hose can reach each tire.
  • Remove the cap on the tire valve of the first tire.
  • Check the air pressure in the tire using the tire gauge. It’s best to do this at home because tires can heat up when you drive, and it can cause the air inside to expand. This can provide a false reading.
  • Use the air hose to add small amounts of air in short bursts while checking the tire gauge each time.

Keep checking the tire gauge until you reach the right amount of pressure! It’s impossible to get it right the first time.

How Many Miles Can You Go on a Spare Tire?

Spare tires rarely last more than 50 miles and should never be driven at high speeds. Your permanent tire should be put as soon as possible. Your spare tire will state the specific limits, but it’s recommended to keep your vehicle below 50 mph.
