How to Change the Battery in a Lexus Key Fob

Are There Signs I Need a Lexus Key Battery Replacement?

Once the engine has stopped, a low battery alert may come from inside your vehicle. This means that the battery is low. Other signs a Lexus key battery replacement is needed include:

  • Your Lexus’s Smart Access system and/or the push-button start isn’t functioning properly.
  • The proximity detection area is smaller than usual.
  • The LED indicator light on the key won’t turn on.

Replacing Your Lexus Key Battery Replacement In 4 Steps!

Before you learn how to change the battery in a Lexus key fob, make sure you have what’s needed, which is a flathead screwdriver and a CR2032 lithium battery. You can find and purchase these batteries online or from your local Moorestown area hardware or auto parts store. Once you have these items, follow these instructions:

  1. Push the release button on the side of the key fob, then remove the emergency key blade that’s stored inside. 
  2. Place the tip of the flathead screwdriver in that now open space that the blade was in. Apply gentle pressure to pop the key fob cover plate off. 
  3. You may see an electronic key module covering the battery. If it’s there, remove that first, then pop the old battery out with the screwdriver.
  4. Put the new CR2032 battery in place with the plus side facing up. Replace the electronic key module and pop the key fob cover plate back into place.

How to Reduce Key Fob Battery Drainage

Lexus is on the leading edge of technology, and in this case, they have a battery-saving mode that’s designed to help reduce battery drainage in your key fob! This can be set up to prevent the key from receiving radio waves, which reduces battery depletion:

  1. Hold down the LOCK button while simultaneously pressing the UNLOCK button two times.
  2. The electronic key indicator should flash four times to confirm that the battery-saving mode has been activated.
  3. When you’re ready to resume use of the Smart Access system and push-button start, just press any button on the key fob!
